Balerno Parish Church
Director of Music
Applications are invited for the position of Director of Music which is currently vacant following the retirement of our previous organist. As the church organist, the Director would also lead the choir and have responsibility for the coordination of the contribution of other musical groups to worship.
Sunday worship is at 10am and is led by a (currently) balanced choir of approx 20 voices who sing an introit. The choir have regularly rehearsed on Thursday evenings and have prepared special services of music for Christmas and Easter as well as contributing occasional anthems to worship.
The church also has a praise band – Jubilate - consisting of 12 musicians and singers overall. It contributes regularly to worship, depending on availability and playing mostly contemporary music. Young people from the church’s Sunday Club also sing at special services and there is scope to develop their involvement in worship further.
The congregation has always enjoyed a variety of music and there are members of the congregation who are able to play occasionally if circumstances require.
The church organ was recently replaced in 2015 and is a Viscount Physis Envoy 35-F with two manuals and pedalboard.
Salary would be negotiated on the basis of experience, consistent with the scales of the Scottish Federation of Organists.
Applications should be made by letter with a CV outlining musical experience and previous organist roles held. These should be accompanied by the names of two referees and sent to firstname.lastname@example.org from whom further information is available.
